Info for Beautiful Dreamers

Basics
  • Name: Shinjiro Aragaki 🪓Dreamer Castor
  • Age: 22
  • Archetype: Sentry
  • Points Unspent: 0
  • Total Points: 0

Dreamer Castor absolutely is drawing on the dark magical boy archetype. He has a fancy black coat, with silver lining on it. It looks a little like a trenchcoat, with a pale red arm band that has a golden crystal in it. Underneath that, he has a pale red shirt on, and dark grey pants. Both also have fancy silver designs on them, dotted with golden crystals. He has a large two-handed pole axe as his sandglass weapon.

Signature Ability
Bleeding Fury (Rank D)
Shinjiro rushes at an enemy and strikes repeatedly, before he leaps into the air and throws his sandglass weapon down at them. The total damage is affected by how much health Shinjiro has lost. At Rank D, Shinjiro does four strikes, and the explosion is small on the final throw.

Powers
Heat Wave (Rank D)
Shinjiro slams his poleaxe into the ground, causing a wave of flame to explode at nearby foes. At Rank D, it has a very short range and can only hit a handful of opponents.

Line Guard (Rank D)
Shinjiro rushes to intercept a blow that would otherwise strike an ally. At Rank D, he can do this twice per fight.

History
hinjiro was born on Rokko Island, an artificial island off the Port of Kobe. He was an orphan, growing up with his friends at an orphanage. This may have included Akihiko Sanada and his sister, should someone be interested. His live changed, though, when he Awakened as a Dreamer during a Nightmare attack. He fought back against the Nightmare and gained his Sandglass. After that, he was known as Dreamer Castor.

After that, he got a scholarship to Promised Morning and moved to Yumemigaoka. He made friends; despite being a little rough around the edges, he proved to be popular. He became a professional Dreamer after he graduated.

Three years ago, in October of 2022, Shinjiro went on a mission that went wrong. Shinjiro always had some trouble controlling himself when he became Dreamer Castor; his powers tended towards causing him to go berserk. In a battle with a Nightmare, everything went wrong -- he lost control of himself, went after Torments summoned by the Nightmare and didn't focus on the Nightmare, which proved too strong. The end result was the Nightmare's victim, the mother of a boy (who might be Ken Amada), lost all of her memories.

Shinjiro broke.

He resigned from the Dreamer Union and took off from Yumemigaoka. He spent the next two years wandering Japan, hitchhiking, taking odd jobs, and roaming around. He sought a cure to what he saw as an affliction: being a Dreamer who couldn't control himself.

He found this: a company called Kakusei Pharmaceutical Holdings, which developed an experimental medication that could control one's ability to be a Dreamer. He started receiving suppressants -- which grant him increased control, but make entering the Dream Sphere difficult... and make it so he can, sometimes, suddenly lose his transformation. He isn't aware of that yet.

In January of 2025, Shinjiro headed back to Yumemigaoka. He had planned to stay away forever, but word of the Disturbances had reached him. And try as he might, he couldn't just stay away.

Personality
Shinjiro, outwardly, is a pretty rough around the edges sort of guy. He is gruff, quiet, and he speaks roughly. He can seem cold and uncaring. Living on the edges of society, a lot of people who meet him assume he's bad news and steer clear. This suit Shinjiro just fine, as he is actively trying to push people away.

That stems from the thing that defines Shinjiro most: overwhelming, crushing guilt. He thinks of himself as a failure. As a Dreamer, he failed to protect the person that he was supposed to protect from a Nightmare, and they lost their life. He failed his comrades and friends in the Dreamer Union that day. He failed the people in the orphanage he grew up around, because he found a better life and then lost it all. This guilt pushes him to sequester himself away and close himself off.

Underneath that, he is still a nice person. He doesn't have some soft, fuzzy core, though; Shinjiro used to be bolder and brasher, and he was more friendly and outgoing. This can come out if he gets comfortable around other people, though this isn't easy for Shinjiro to manage.

He also wants to look out for others. Shinjiro doesn't want others to make the mistakes that he thinks he made. Staying focused on helping people, on taking out the targets that matter, and protecting friends and allies is important to him. He wants to look after the Dreamers in Yumemigaoka, both old friends and newcomers. He just wants to do so from a distance.

He also wants to hide how bad things got for him, both out of guilt and to protect them. This includes the fact that he is essentially homeless -- he is couch surfing, but he's slept a few nights under a bridge. It also includes the suppressants.

The major changes to Shinjiro's character from canon is that he is a little more worldly -- he's traveled all over Japan and is a few years older -- and that he has feelings of failing a whole social structure (the Dreamer Union) rather than just Akihiko and Mitsuru. These mostly affect his sense of guilt and his experiences. In a lot of ways, he is the same person at his core.
